There comes a time when we have to take a chance on ourselves even if doing so may involve putting what we have “out there on the line” and that is not always the easiest place to be. Where we find ourselves today may not be all our own doing. Too often we limit ourselves and hold ourselves back because of what people will think if we were to do what we really want to do. What follows is a brief list of some of the factors that prevent us from moving forward.
What keeps us from excelling and being all we are capable of being –
- False beliefs about ourselves
- Friends or family that continually tell us we do not have what it takes
- Teachers who underestimated our intelligence or capabilities early on
- Stories we tell ourselves such as: there is enough time or money to do what I really want to do
- Overly critical people we work with
- Gaps in our education
- Any number of excuses we use to justify our stagnation
- Geographical restrictions
- Lack of ongoing support
- Lack of faith in a higher power
- Lack of appreciation for what we have
- Feelings of Inferiority
- Insufficient information
- Poor planning
- Emotional blindness that prevents us from seeing our way around obstacles
- Anger
- Not enough motivation
- Exhaustion
- Setbacks or permanent reversals
- Being overlooked by the higher-ups
- Health related barriers
- Burnout
- Jealousy from others
- Fear / hesitation
- Cascade of any number of external factors
