One of the best ways to regain a sense of ourselves and the world around us is to begin to envision the world in more simplistic terms. A few years back this would not have been possible for me even though I have been in this wonderful mindset before. It is easy to get all spun around by trying to balance everything at once and when this happens it affects our awareness of simplicity. Control demands that we contend with everything we have brought into our lives or we lose our way. I hear a lot about how to better simplifying our lives through the process of elimination. Everyone has their own way of and scaling down and limiting the amount of possessions or projects we are involved in. I am aware of the philosophy that suggests we focus on better organization in an attempt to simplicity our way of being. When I mention the awareness of simplicity what I am referring to are small modifications that could result in the liberation of our thinking.
I am suggesting a mental and intellectual plan that would lead to the reduction of the excesses in our routines. Extravagances in the way we do things and perceive things that take up our energy and zap the life out of us. Pondering over and over unpleasant preoccupations that consume way too much of our attention prevents us from allowing ourselves greater awareness of our world.
Simplicity demands that we face these worn out patterns. So much of what we are engaged in daily serves no useful purpose in our lives other than to fill the need of familiarity. All the distractions we create for ourselves prevent us from feeling the depth of the true richness of our lives. For example: when we look at an object that contains color, how much of our attention is focused just on the color and how much do we allow ourselves to activate our imaginations in its magnificence. When we are drawn to a color, do we explore its saturation? Do we question the combination of the pigments and the result of the mixture? Or, do we compare it to the colors of nature and remind ourselves of the restrictions of synthetic color imitations and think of what cannot be duplicated by man?
The awareness of simplicity to me is stopping and concentrating on one thing at a time – like the development of an interesting color. Allowing ourselves the luxury of the connection we feel to all that is a part of our sphere of existence when we make an effort to give the things that share our space with us, our undivided attention. There is power in the awareness of simplicity. The power comes from breaking down the elements of things and people and conversations until we can appreciate each and every one of their components so that they can truly touch us. When we allow ourselves to become more sensitized by the simplicity of what we have brought into our consciousness we can feel more in tune with ourselves and others because we establish a more basic balance to our universe. Simplicity of awareness allows us to bring about the type of balance that exists deep within our core being – a centeredness that permeates every aspect of our current circumstances. Balance depends on simplicity and awareness without the combination of the two it is impossible to achieve.
By definition Simplicity is a more qualitative word connected to simple. It is a property, condition, or quality which things can be judged to have. It usually relates to the burden which a thing puts on someone trying to explain or understand it. Something which is easy to understand or explain is simple, in contrast to something complicated. In some uses, simplicity can be used to imply beauty, purity or clarity. Simplicity may also be used in a negative connotation to denote a deficit or insufficiency of nuance or complexity of a thing, relative to what is supposed to be required. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simplicity
