As aesthetic caregivers we need to find ways to better sustain ourselves and make own lives more fulfilling. We need to take time for evaluating our well-being and to establish rescue routines for days when we feel that we are gradually moving away from our life force.
Having short-term recovery strategies and plans for quick energy lifts is essential in order for us to balance all the details of our professional and personal lives. If we do not focus on taking care of ourselves we will fall short of our goal to help others. It is impossible to meet anyone’s requirements if we are lacking in energy ourselves. If we neglect putting into our bodies healthy foods and instead allow the consumption of too many refined additives, eat too much white bread, pasta and sugar-laced treats we are not nourishing ourselves properly and eventually, the results will begin to show.
If we do not spend enough time reflecting on the day-to-day challenges that arise we cannot sort out our worries. Troublesome situations that go unresolved lead to worry and can cause severe and chronic tension headaches. How can we be expected to think clearly let alone help others do the same? Running around at rocket speed makes it difficult to slow down and take it easy even when we do find a few minutes here and there. I know often times, I find myself just trying to catch my breath. If I am extra busy I not only miss my tri-weekly workout, but I miss just getting out and taking in some fresh air. If I am distracted by an overly hectic schedule I excuse myself when friends invite me to socialize. The time we spend in the company of those we cherish in our lives is so important to our sanity. If we keep declining invitations we can eventually lose our desire to be with other people altogether. Isolation affects the state of our well-being and can lead to bouts of melancholy. Lack of exercise and lapses in pursuing sports or hobbies we normally enjoy results in weight gain and slows us down making us feel as if we are too fatigued to resume our regular routines.
No matter how well we care for our mental and physical states there is always room for personal improvement. The idea is to strive for optimum well-being. We should be thinking more about how we can bring ourselves into a circle of calm control (meditation and visualizations) and to live more fulfilling lives by living more in the moment with greater sensory awareness. We can do this by looking inward and contemplating, focusing on our breath, experiencing tactile sensations, relying more on our intuitive faculties. Making an effort to identify flavors and exploring taste, inhaling aromatic scents and absorbing music are all great ways to bring ourselves back in touch with what is majestic in life. We bring new meaning into our world by concentrating more on nature, the sky, the clouds, the beauty of the trees, the mountains and, regional wildlife. A really great way to reduce tension when our anxiety levels are high is to take an anti-stress day off to engage in pastimes that are highly relevant to us. Something as simple as buying flowers, bike riding or, having lunch with an old friend or going to a matinée can make a typical day – extremely special.
